To get a better sense of it, here are a few recommendations for things to do in Astoria, Oregon, on your day-trip!

Historical Significance to the Brim

A fun fact to know going into your Astoria, Oregon, day trip is that it is the state’s oldest town. Founded in 1811, the town has seen many changes throughout its time, but it’s undeniable that it has kept its charm throughout. As a former major port hub, Astoria, Oregon, takes pride in its history. That is evident with the abundance of museums throughout town, including the Maritime Museum, Oregon Film Museum, and Uppertown Firefighters Museum. Your final historical stop has to be the Astoria Column, which towers 125 feet in the air and is nearly 100 years old itself!

Explore Downtown

Any Astoria, Oregon, day trip isn’t complete without a stroll through inviting downtown. For such a small town, it has so very much to offer, including several breweries, such as Astoria Brewing Company, Buoy Beer Co., and Fort George Brewery. Getting hungry? Then visit appetizing stops like Bowpicker Fish & Chips, Labor Temple Diner & Bar, and Frite & Scoop. Scratch that itch when it comes to shopping with Finn Ware, Forsythēa, and the historic Gimre’s Shoes. Convenience is king, as most of these stops are all within a short walking distance.

Local Parks

If you enjoy a bit of fresh air, then you’re in for a treat. Across from City Hall is the relatively new Garden of Surging Waves that pays homage to the Chinese heritage of Astoria, Oregon. It offers an urban park setting in the middle of downtown and features beautiful iconography and interesting facts. Just a short drive from downtown Astoria will take you to Lewis and Clark National Historical Park, where you can get an up-close look at the perils and adventures of prior explorers.
