Local Activities

beach.silo_Enjoy Your Time at Gearhart by the Sea Resort

No matter what your interests, you’re sure to find activities to entertain you and your guests while you’re at Gearhart by the Sea. Here’s just a sampling of the many things you can do while you’re here.

Enjoy the Beach. There is nothing as spectacular as the Oregon Coast. Gearhart by the Sea is located on one of Oregon’s longest beaches. A sandy trail takes you directly from the resort up over the grassy dunes to miles of open Oregon beaches. Walk south until you come to the Necanicum river estuary. Or head north to find the Peter Iredale, an aging shipwreck that is still visible at low tide. You can spend hours on this expansive beach. Enjoy the sand and surf, and then cap your day with a beautiful coastal sunset.

Hike Through Town or at Local Parks. Gearhart has a unique trail that runs from the Gearhart Golf Links to the Necanicum rivier. It passes right through the middle of town. If you are looking for some serious hiking, try any of these hikes. You can also go to any of Oregon’s numerous state parks for hiking.

Participate in Local Happenings. Check out our calendar of local events for special activities during your stay. Just click on the Local Events tab, above.

Dig for Clams. The northern Oregon Coast is known for its razor clams, which are as much fun to catch as they are good to eat. Clickhere for tips on how to catch a razor clam.

Go Fish. Astoria, Warrenton, and Hammond have a number of charter boats available to take you fishing for salmon, sturgeon, and bottom fish. The experienced charter operators can take care of everything, including fishing licenses. Don’t know much about fishing? Click here for background info on two prominent local species: salmon and sturgeon.
